Joint Pains

Joint pains may be caused by strain or injury or hey may be symptom of a disease. Chronic disease of a joint may lead to deformity. One or several joints may be affected simultaneously. Joint pains often occur in old persons. Read, hot, swollen or tender joints, and fever are often associated with joint pains.
Remedies
- Six teaspoonfuls of a decoction of the root bark of castor plant may be taken three times of day.
- One teaspoonful (5gm) of gum resin powder taken three times of day with any hot drunk can help.
- If joints are swollen, red hot and tender, keep a hot water bottle of the warm paste of castor root on the affected parts or apply lukewarm castor oil. Castor leaves smeared with a little castor oil and warmed by heating may be placed over the affected joints.
- Five drops of castor oil in a cup of warm mild can be taken three to four times a day. Cardamom, powder and sugar may be added to this mixture.
Warning: A child with severe pain in several joints and fever, who shows no improvement after two days of treatment, should be taken to nearest health center or hospital.
Diet and regimen: Curd, dour food and alcoholic drinks are to be avoided. Garlic and ginger are useful. Avoid being out in the cold and rain. Take hot water bathes in winter and drink hot water.
