ShiatsuShiatsu is an ancient Japanese massage. It involves the uses of thumb pressure along the body. Shiatsu is closely related with acupressure. Shi means finger and atsu means pressure. Shiatsu is based on anatomical and psychological theory. Shiatsu is also referred as Teate which is originated in china. The word shiatsu might be first used in a book tilted Shiatsu Ryoho by Tenpaku Tamai. Later shiatsu was developed around the world.

In 1912, Tokujiro Namikosi is supposed to find therapy by treating his mother by his thumbs and palms. At first, it is referred as Appaku and later changed as shiatsu. Shiatsu involves the treatment with the uses of thumbs and palm of one’s hand apply pressure gently to particular area on the human body. This is done to balance the human body and for maintaining and promoting health. And it also provides stiffness to the surface of the body.

Shiatsu is often defined as a finger pressure massage. It is very hottest new massage. It has been used for thousands of years. It is based on holistic approach. Circulation will be increased in this session. Shiatsu relieves stiff muscles and alleviates stress. The treatment is usually done on a massage table or on the floor. The shiatsu therapist applies the gentle pressure over the human body. If the client feels pain, suddenly they should inform the therapist, then they will comfort with low pressure. No oil is used in this treatment. People can fully clothe in this session.

Shiatsu is used to give deep relaxation and give up back pain, headache, premenstrual syndrome, anxiety, insomnia, neck and shoulder pain, tiredness, recovery from injuries, stress, arthritis pain. Constipation, depression and like. People who are having skin diseases, open wound, inflamed skin, tumors are not recommended for shiatsu. Pregnant women should consult with doctor before going with shiatsu. People are not advised to eat a heavy meal before the shiatsu.
