Constipation

A person who complains of constipation passes dry and hard stools less frequently than once a day. Constipation may be acute, developing suddenly or long standing (chronic).
Acute constipation may be symptomatic of a more serious illness. Such cases should be referred to the hospital immediately. Constipation may also occur following an attack of diarrhea or the day after taking a purgative. Constipation is common in old people and during pregnancy. Constipation in children is due to faulty dietary habits. Abdominal discomfort and pain, loss of appetite and headache are commonly associated with constipation.
Vomiting

Vomiting is generally caused by an infection in the stomach or by eating and drinking contaminated or stale food and drinks. It also occurs in early pregnancy. Pain in the abdomen, diarrhea, constipation and fever accompanies vomiting. Severe vomiting may lead to dehydration, especially in children.
Remedies:
- One teaspoonful (5ml) of lemon juice three times a day with a pinch of salt can curb vomiting.
- One teaspoonful (5gm) of cardamom powder three times a day with hot water is helpful too.
- For vomiting with abdominal pain, one teaspoonful of lemon juice with one gram of asafetida powder is helpful. Also one teaspoonful (2.5gm) of nutmeg powder with buttermilk or curd is an effective cure.
- For vomiting with fever, take one teaspoonful (5ml) of lemon juice and half a teaspoonful (2.5ml) of ginger juice with a pinch of salt.

Citrus aurantifolia synonymous to Citrus medica variety acida, commonly called sour lime, is one of the most widely used citrus fruits of India. The fruit, used for culinary purposes, are sold in markets almost the year around. It is a very common item which is served fresh or in pickle form along with the meals which are ordered in hotels. The plant is a much branched thorny shrub. The leaves are small with narrowly winged petioles. The small white flowers have usually four petals. The fruit are round of ovoid with thin rinds. The pulp is very acidic and is a rich source of Vitamin C.
Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum is an erect, hairy, whitish herb. It is a perennial, aromatic plant which grows to about 60 cm. high. The leaves are sharply toothed, ovate-oblong, with 2 or 3 lobes on each side. Flowers are borne in white, purple or other colored yellow heads. The disc florets are numerous. The fruit is very small, somewhat compressed and grooved. This plant is widely cultivated for ornamental purposes.

A deciduous shrubby climber with stems up to 23 cm. in diameter 18 meters high. The twigs are fairly smooth, reddish brown and densely covered with small elongate whitish lenticels which are openings meant for diffusion of gases or respiration. The leaves are elliptic-ovate or obovate and serrate. The greenish-yellow flowers are 3.8 mm. in diameter and are found on panicles which are 5 to 20 cm. long. The capsules which are 1 to 1.3 cm. in diameter are 3-lobed and bright yellow in color. The seeds are completely enclosed in an orange-red aril.
Papaya for Cure

Papaw or papaya is one of the most common plants grown in tropical countries. It is an upright usually branchless, fast-growing tree. The trunk is soft, grayish, marked with fallen leaf scars. The leaves are deeply lobed, with long stalks, borne on the top of the tree. The male flowers are in long-stalked clusters, but the female flowers are stalkless or sessile. The fruit is obovoid, yellow-orange when ripe, fleshy, juicy, and often contains numerous black seeds although seedless varieties are also available today. It is a common fruit which is found in the market during the fruiting season.
Mountain Ebony

Mountain Ebony is a medium sized deciduous tree with dark brown bark. The leaves are as broad as they are long with a cleft of about 1/3 the way down from the apex resulting in two obtuse lobes. The petioles are 2.5-3.5 c, long and the white flowers are large and fragrant, appearing when the tree is nearly leafless in short axillary or terminal racemes. The flat pods are about 15-30 cm. long containing 10-15 seeds.
